Classroom instruction engages apprentices to become critical thinkers through active reflection and participation in a professional learning community. Apprentices attend class at Sandhills Community College where USGA Agronomists, university scientists, industry professionals, and golf course superintendents lead apprentices through content anchored in the on-course experience gained during the apprenticeship. Classroom instruction includes:

  • An introduction to the game and turfgrass management
  • An introduction to soil, plant, and water science
  • Continuing exploration in pest management, fertility, and mathematics of turfgrass maintenance.
  • Advanced professional development in leadership and personnel management
