Do you ever leave a board meeting, green committee meeting, or staff meeting feeling like people don’t understand your job? If so, you’re in good company. Many superintendents have skill sets and experience that most golfers don’t understand, which makes it difficult for them to appreciate aspects of a superintendent’s job. Superintendents are highly skilled in growing turfgrass, but they must also be soil and water scientists, experts in pest management, financially savvy, effective leaders of their team, and meteorologists all at the same time.
