An Introduction to the Turf Advisory Service
On April 9, USGA Green Section Senior Agronomist Chris Hartwiger taught Mississippi State University turfgrass management students in a most unique classroom – the Starkville Country Club in Starkville, Miss. Several months ago, Mississippi State professor Dr. Christian Baldwin inquired about the possibility of using a Turf Advisory Visit as a means to teach his students about the application of turfgrass management principles in a country club setting. Starkville Country Club Superintendent Will Arnett was up for the opportunity and he enthusiastically developed an agenda that focused on the challenge of balancing the needs of the turfgrass with the expectations of the golfers. The visit created such a buzz at the club that numerous course officials attended the Turf Advisory Visit as well. All in all, a fun and educational day was had by all.
