Hataoka nearly claimed her first major title last June at The Olympic Club, losing a playoff to Yuka Saso in the 2021 U.S. Women's Open. Hataoka has won six LPGA Titles (11 worldwide), the latest coming in late April in the Dio Implant LA Open. Before turning pro, Hataoka won the 2016 Japan Women’s Open, a major on the LPGA of Japan Tour., as an amateur. That year, Hataoka also reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur, losing, ironically, to Saso, 1 down, at Rolling Green Golf Club in suburban Philadelphia. Hataoka earned LPGA Tour playing privileges for 2017 through the LPGA Tour Qualifying School. In 2018, she collected her maiden victory on the circuit at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. Hataoka tied for 10th in her first U.S. Women’s Open start in 2018 and shared runner-up honors in the 2018 KPMG Women’s PGA.
