The niece of nine-time USGA champion and 15-time major winner Tiger Woods earned her fifth U.S. Women’s Open start by shooting 2-under 142 on May 10 at Spring Lake (N.J.) Country Club for medalist honors. Woods owns two professional victories, the 2014 Volvik RACV Masters on the Ladies European Tour and a SunCoast Ladies Series mini-tour title shortly after turning pro in 2012. Woods was the medalist in the 2011 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon and advanced to the quarterfinals. At Wake Forest, she claimed the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference title. When she earned her LPGA Tour card for the 2015 season, she became the sixth Black to compete on that circuit. Off the course, she hosts a podcast with Doug Smith and has participated in Race Fore Unity, a virtual fundraiser for the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf’s Renee Powell Grant, which helps provide access to the game for Black girls. She also is working as an on-course reporter for Golf Channel at this summer’s U.S. Girls’ Junior and U.S. Women’s Amateur.
