Hataoka’s future success was presaged by her victory as an amateur in the 2016 Japan Women’s Open, a major on the LPGA of Japan Tour. That year, Hataoka also reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur, losing to Yuka Saso, 1 down. Hataoka earned playing privileges for 2017 through the LPGA Tour Qualifying School. In 2018, she collected her maiden victory on the circuit at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. Hataoka tied for 10th in her first U.S. Women’s Open start in 2018 and shared runner-up honors in the 2018 KPMG Women’s PGA. Her last LPGA Tour win is the 2019 Kia Classic.
