Getting inside the top 75 of the Rolex Rankings as of the second cutoff date enabled Shin to earn her 12th U.S. Women's Open. The 2006 U.S. Girls’ Junior champion defeated Vicky Hurst in 37 holes at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. It was the first year that the USGA employed a 36-hole final for the championship. Shin was born in the Republic of Korea, but spent a majority of her childhood in the Los Angeles suburb of Torrance, Calif. She turned professional in 2010, and her only LPGA Tour victory to date is the 2016 Volunteers of America Texas Shootout.
