Road to Olympic: Qualified at Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Columbia, S.C., native will make her first U.S. Women’s Open start after surviving a 2-for-1 playoff with professional Rachel Rohanna on May 4 in Pittsburgh. A week earlier, Castle and University of Kentucky teammate Marissa Wenzler advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship. Last summer, Castle, who just completed her sophomore season in Lexington, advanced to the Round of 32 of the U.S. Women’s Amateur. In 2019-20, Castle became the school’s first All-Southeastern Conference first-team selection since Cindy Mueller in 1989, also establishing a single-season stroke-average mark of 71.88. In 2019, she was the runner-up in the PGA Girls Junior Championship to Yuka Saso, who is in the U.S. Women’s Open field as an exempt player.
