2020 U.S. Senior Am, U.S. Senior Women’s Am Canceled May 18, 2020 | Liberty Corner, N.J.

The 2020 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, scheduled Aug. 29-Sept. 3 at the Country Club of Detroit in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., and the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, scheduled Sept. 12-17 at The Lakewood Club in Point Clear, Ala., have been canceled due to health concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

These two championships join six other 2020 USGA amateur championships that have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic: the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball, U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball, U.S. Junior Amateur, U.S. Girls’ Junior, U.S. Mid-Amateur and U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur.

The 2020 U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Senior Women’s Open also have been canceled.

The U.S. Women’s Amateur and U.S. Amateur are retaining their scheduled dates, while the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open had their original dates moved to September and December, respectively. All four of those competitions will be conducted without qualifying, meaning the fields will be comprised entirely of fully exempt players.

“Throughout this process, our primary focus has been the safety and well-being of everyone involved, including our players, volunteers, host club representatives and staff,” said John Bodenhamer, senior managing director of Championships for the USGA. “We have not taken these decisions lightly and wish we had more options. But with a continued, keen interest in doing what is best for all involved, although we are extremely disappointed, we are confident this is the right decision.”
