For the third consecutive year, Elliot and Eloise, a pair of bald eagles, have built a nest in a tree at The Bear Trace at Harrison Bay in Harrison, Tenn., near Chattanooga.
In the nest, Eloise has laid two eggs – the first on February 10, the second on February 13 – that are expected to hatch around March 17.
Once again, a grant provided by the USGA Green Section has allowed certified course superintendent Paul Carter and his staff to set up the Harrison Bay Eagle Cam, which provides streaming video of the eagles and their eggs in the next. The camera will monitor the development of the chicks, which are expected to experience their first flight 10 to 12 weeks after hatching.
“The purpose of the Harrison Bay Eagle Cam Project, besides just the sure enjoyment of watching a nesting pair of bald eagles up close, is to help demonstrate that golf courses can be a suitable and desirable habitat for wildlife,” said Carter. “The fact that Elliot and Eloise have returned now to The Bear Trace at Harrison Bay for the third consecutive year to raise a family is tremendous. We feel honored and blessed that they feel comfortable enough and safe enough to call our golf course home.”
