Far Hills, N.J. – The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced Squire Creek Country Club, in Choudrant, La., as the host site for the 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. This will be the first USGA championship held at Squire Creek Country Club. The dates of the championship are Oct. 3-8.
“The USGA is delighted to bring the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship to Squire Creek Country Club and pleased to return to the state of Louisiana for the first time since 1966,” said Thomas J. O’Toole Jr., USGA vice president and Championship Committee chairman. “We are confident the club will stage a successful national amateur championship and the course will test the players’ skills.”
Squire Creek Country Club was designed by Tom Fazio and opened for play in 2002. Located in northern Louisiana between Shreveport and Monroe, Squire Creek features a bermudagrass layout, a 40,000-square-foot clubhouse, a state-of-the-art golf training facility, lighted tennis courts and a fitness center.
“Squire Creek Country Club is an avid supporter of amateur golf and is honored to host the 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.” said Rick Maier, director of grounds and general manager for Squire Creek Country Club and Development. “We are excited about working with the USGA to provide a great venue for the championship and a challenging test of golf for all competitors. Our members and staff look forward to hosting a memorable event filled with our unique Louisiana hospitality.”
Squire Creek hosted U.S. Open Championship local qualifying in 2008 and 2009. The club has twice hosted the Louisiana Golf Association Mid-Amateur and will be the site of the 2013 Louisiana Women’s Golf Association State Amateur. Squire Creek is the home course for the Louisiana Tech University men’s golf team and hosted the 2005 Western Athletic Conference Championship.
The U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur was first conducted in 1987. The championship is open to female amateurs age 25 and older who have a USGA Handicap Index® not exceeding 9.4. The 2013 championship will be conducted at Biltmore Forest Country Club in Asheville, N.C., from Oct. 5-10. In 2014, the championship will be played at Harbour Trees Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind., from Sept. 6-11.
Louisiana hosted its only USGA championship in 1966, when the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur was played at Lakewood Country Club in New Orleans.
