Steve Golliher, 57, Knoxville, Tenn.

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-and-2 victory over Gary Hardin… This is his first USGA Senior Amateur… Played in five U.S. Amateurs and four U.S. Mid-Amateurs… Reinstated as an amateur in 1982… Started playing at the age of nine due to his father’s influence… Lowest score is 63 during 2000 U.S. Amateur qualifying… Favorite golf moment was winning the 1972 golf regional when he was in high school… Has two holes-in-one… Enjoys hunting in the east Tennessee mountains… Stockbroker at Hilliard Lyons… Born Feb. 16, 1955, in Harrisburg, Ill.

Douglas Hanzel, 55, Savannah, Ga.

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-and-3 victory over Randal Lewis… This is his first USGA Senior Amateur… Playing in his fourth USGA championship this summer… In 2012, he was the low amateur at the U.S. Senior Open, made the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur, and reached match play at the U.S. Mid-Amateur… Played in 10 U.S. Amateurs, three U.S. Mid-Amateurs, two USGA Men’s State Teams and two U.S. Senior Opens… Won 2012 Jones Cup senior invitational and 2012 John L. Lupton Senior Invitational… Set up a golf scholarship in his name at his alma mater, Kent State… Physician at Southcoast Medical Group… Named No. 1 Doctor/Golfer in 2008 by Golf Digest… Uses an insulin pump to control his diabetes and wants young players to know that diabetes doesn’t have to be prohibitive to playing… Wife, Nancy, two children, Katie and Drew... Born Feb. 18, 1957, in Cleveland.

Jim Knoll, 60, Sunnyvale, Calif.

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-and-2 victory over Stephen Ford… This is his fourth USGA Senior Amateur… Advanced to the round of 32 in the 2010 USGA Senior Amateur… Played in two U.S. Opens and two U.S. Senior Opens… Made the cut at the 2007 Senior Open… Reinstated as an amateur in 1982… Named 2011 Northern California Golf Association Senior Player of the Year… Won 2012 NCGA Master Division championship and 2011 NCGA Senior championship… Won 2008 and 2011 NCGA Senior Valley Amateur… Lowest score is 63 at Pasatiempo Golf Club in 1976… Wife, Terry, and two sons, Nicholas and Kevin… Entire immediate family plays golf… Has three holes-in-one… Born Aug. 11, 1952, in San Francisco.

Louis Lee, 56, Heber Springs, Ark.

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-and-2 victory over Donald Detweiler… This is his second USGA Senior Amateur… Defeated Philip Pleat at Kinloch Golf Club to win the 2011 Senior Amateur…  Joined older brother, Stan, the 2007 Senior Amateur champion… Reinstated as an amateur in 1980… Member of Arkansas Hall of Fame… Owns 10 Arkansas state titles… Lowest score is 60 at Searcy Country Club… Graduated from Louisiana State University in 1978… Insurance agent for State Farm… Born July 16, 1956, in Heber Springs, Ark.

Pat O’Donnell, 58, Happy Valley, Ore.

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 1-up victory over James Pearson… This is his second USGA Senior Amateur… Played in 1972 U.S. Amateur… Four-time winner of Oregon Senior Stroke Play Championship… Two-time Oregon Senior Amateur champion… Two-time Oregon Tournament of Champions winner…Named Player of the Year by the Oregon Golf Association in 2009… Pacific Northwest Player of the Year in 2009… Lowest score is 61 at Gresham Golf Course… Maintenance analyst at Boeing… Wife, Sue, and two daughters, Shannon and Kerry, and granddaughter, London… Born Nov. 17, 1953, in Portland, Ore. 

Stephen Sharpe, 55, Greensboro, N.C.

Advanced to quarterfinals with a 1-up victory over Gerardo Ramirez… This is his first USGA Senior Amateur… Played in two U.S. Mid-Amateurs and two U.S. Senior Opens…Finished third in 2012 North Carolina Senior Amateur… Seven-time club champion at Forest Oaks Country Club and two-time club champion at Bryan Park Country Club… Started playing at age 18… Lowest score is 65 at Blair Park Golf Course… Owns construction company, PS Grading LLC…Wife, Pamela, and three children, Ryan, Jessica and Carley… Avid hunter… Born Jan. 23, 1957, in Greensboro, N.C.

Paul Simson, 61, Raleigh, N.C.

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-and-1 victory over Joe Russo… This is his fifth USGA Senior Amateur and 40th USGA championship… Won 2010 USGA Senior Amateur… Co-medalist at 2004 U.S. Mid-Amateur… Winner of three British Senior Open Amateur titles… Inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2010… Has won 25 Carolinas Golf Association championships… Started playing at age 10… Lowest score is 62 at Yeamens Hall Golf Club in 1990 Carolinas Mid-Amateur… Has 10 holes-in-one, one more than his mother, Jane... Winter hobby is skiing… Insurance agent at Stan Taylor/Towne Insurance… Wife, Chris, and son Phillip… Born May 10, 1951, in Summit, N.J.

Curtis Skinner, 55, of Lake Bluff, Ill.

Advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Graham Cooke through 19 holes… This is his first USGA Senior Amateur… Played in one U.S. Amateur, two U.S. Mid-Amateurs and two U.S. Senior Opens… Low amateur at 2008 U.S. Senior Open qualifying…  Lowest score was 66 at Bridgestone Country Club in 2009… Started playing at age 12… Futures broker at TJM Institutional Services…. Enjoys watching high school basketball and football… Wife Kari, and three children, John, Peter, and Paige… Born June 21, 1957, in Racine, Wis.
