Casey Boyns, 56, Monterey, Calif.

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 1-up victory over Michael Muehr … competing in his third U.S. Mid-Amateur … also competed in the U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Amateur Public Links, USGA Senior Amateur and USGA Men’s State Team … has won 15 Northern California Golf Association titles, including one Northern Cal Open, and two California State Amateur Championships … is a four-time NGCA player of the year … is a reinstated amateur … a 1980 graduate of the University of Utah … is a full-time caddie at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links, where he has worked for more than 30 years … married to Sara … has two children, Marissa and Christopher … born Dec. 11, 1955, in Carmel, Calif.

Dennis Bull, 30, Norwalk, Iowa

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-up victory over Charlie Blanchard … competing in his first USGA championship … runner-up at the 2012 Iowa Match-Play Championship and 2011 Northwest Iowa Amateur Championship … received amateur reinstatement in 2009 … a 2005 graduate of Illinois State University, where he was a recipient of the D.A. Weibring Scholarship … will complete an MBA at the University of Iowa this winter … a financial analyst with Exelon Corporation … son of Thomas and Joan Bull … has one sister, Susie Pierce, and a nephew, Darin … born March 19, 1982, in Pontiac, Ill.

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-and-2 victory over John Patterson … the 1994 and 2001 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion … competing in his 19th U.S. Mid-Amateur … also competed in the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Senior Open and USGA Men’s State Team … was a member of Tennessee’s winning team at the 2003 Men’s State Team … competing in next week’s Men’s State Team … represented the USA on the 1995 and 1999 Walker Cup Teams … won numerous state and regional championships, including the 2012 Tennessee State Amateur, five Tennessee Mid-Amateurs, the 2002 Tennessee Open and the 1998 North and South Amateur … six-time Tennessee Golf Association (TGA) player of the year … is a past president of the TGA and has been on the board of directors since 1998 … a 1984 graduate of the University of Tennessee … is a partner in Carwash USA Express, LLC … married to Karen … has two children, Ben and Austin … born Feb. 16, 1959, in Memphis, Tenn.

Nathan Smith, 34, Pittsburgh, Pa.

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 19-hole victory over Sean Knapp … the 2003, 2009 and 2010 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion … competing in his 10th U.S. Mid-Amateur and currently owns a 29-4 match-play record … also has competed in the U.S. Amateur and USGA Men’s State Team … was a member of Pennsylvania’s winning team at the 2009 Men’s State Team … competing in next week’s Men’s State Team … represented the USA on the 2009 and 2011 Walker Cup Teams and at the 2010 Copa de las Americas … has won numerous championships in his home state, including the 2009 State Amateur and three Western Pennsylvania Amateurs … a 2001 graduate of Allegheny College … is an investment advisor … married to Dr. Nicole Bianco-Smith … born Aug. 6, 1978, in Pennsylvania
