Sammamish, Wash. – Tom Pernice Jr. withdrew from the 2010 U.S. Senior Open Championship on Monday due to a scheduling conflict. Pernice realized that he had also committed to play the PGA Tour’s Greenbrier Classic this week, and decided to play in the inaugural event in Sulpher Springs, W.Va.
Pernice will be replaced by professional William Copeland of New Port Richey, Fla., who earned first-alternate status in the June 28 sectional at Dunedin (Fla.) Country Club, shooting a 70.
Copeland, who is playing in his first U.S. Senior Open, will take a spot in the 8:05 a.m. group off the first tee on Thursday, joining Jeff Sluman and John Cook. – David Shefter
