Sheila C. Johnson
Sheila C. Johnson, of Middleburg, Va., is in her fifth year as a member of the USGA Executive Committee and her third as secretary.
Johnson is CEO and founder of Salamander Hotels & Resorts, which oversees a growing portfolio of luxury golf and family resort properties, including The Henderson, in Destin, Fla., and the Salamander Resort & Spa, which opened in August 2013 in Middleburg, Va. Johnson is also vice chairman of Monumental Sports & Entertainment and president and managing partner of the WNBA’s Washington Mystics.
She is the only African-American woman to have ownership in three professional sports teams, holding stakes in the NBA’s Washington Wizards and the NHL’s Washington Capitals, and is the first African-American female member of the USGA Executive Committee. Johnson is also a partner in JetLinx Aviation, a comprehensive aviation serve company, as well as Mistral, a maker of fine bath, body and home products.
A powerful influence in the entertainment industry since her work as founding partner of Black Entertainment Television, Johnson has served as executive producer of four documentary films and was an executive producer for the major motion picture “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” which was released in 2013. She serves on the boards of Parsons The New School for Design, Trust for the National Mall and Harvard Kennedy School's Center for Public Leadership, and is a founder of WE Capital, a women’s investment company.
