Amateurs competing in sponsored handicap competitions (e.g., sponsored by a company or commercial entity) may accept expenses to play in its various stages, provided the event has been approved. For events held solely in the United States, approval must be granted by the USGA. Events held outside the United States must be approved by the USGA and the governing body of any other country involved with the competition. This provision applies only to competitions that are played on a net basis.
The organizers of the competition must complete and submit to the USGA the "Application for Approval" after reading the "Guidelines for Approval of Sponsored Handicap Competitions."
