Golf Fans Have Opportunity To Own Part Of History
Dec. 11, 2009
In June 2008, the United States Golf Association reopened the USGA Museum and unveiled the Arnold Palmer Center for Golf History in Far Hills, N.J., to showcase the game’s great champions and memorable moments that have helped shape golf’s history in the U.S. While artifacts and memorabilia are prominently displayed throughout the Museum, some of the most treasured assets in the USGA’s vast collection are not quite as visible – the countless images stored in the USGA Museum Photo Archives.
The USGA has one of the most comprehensive collections of golf photography in the world. Containing more than 500,000 timeless images, the collection includes original black-and-white prints from the beginning of golf and photography in the U.S. along with an
extensive collection of contemporary images. Each year, more than 15,000 images are added to the collection from the USGA’s championships and other activities.
Recently, the USGA Museum placed its Photo Collection Store online to give golf fans an opportunity to purchase a part of the game’s history. Many of the iconic photographs available in the Photo Store showcase the game’s great champions and memorable moments that have helped shape golf’s history in the U.S. The collection also includes spectacular golf course landscapes, including many classic venues that have hosted the game’s greatest championships.
“The USGA Museum has an incredible collection of some of the most noteworthy images in the game,” said Rand Jerris, director of the USGA Museum. “We are fortunate to have such wonderful photographs and we thrilled to be able to make them available to the public.”
Both black-and-white and color images come beautifully framed so individuals can cherish their piece of history. A variety of finishes and framing options are available.
The USGA invites all golf enthusiasts, whether they play the game or simply enjoy its aesthetic beauty, to browse the Photo Store (http://photos.usgamuseum.com/).
