Bermuda Golf Association Signs As GHIN® Subscriber

Far Hills, N.J.  - The Bermuda Golf Association has joined the United States Golf Association's Golf Handicap and Information Network® (GHIN), becoming the first truly international federation within the GHIN family.

The Bermuda Golf Association includes about 2,500 golfers and assists the nine golf courses on the island in a variety of ways. Overall, the GHIN network previously comprised 60 state and regional golf associations covering 42 states and Puerto Rico. 

"We are very happy to be joining the many associations and golfers in GHIN," said Bob Legere, president of the Bermuda Golf Association. "In addition to the basic services of Handicapping and Course RatingT, we look to take advantage of strengthened ties with the USGA. It's a happy day for us, and we hope that we have opened the door for other international federations to join GHIN."

"We are pleased to assist the Bermuda Golf Association, its members and member clubs," said Steve Smyers, a USGA executive committee member and chairman of the GHIN committee. "With the electronic mediums now commonplace throughout the world, GHIN can now fully support international governing bodies that are licensed to use the USGA Handicap SystemT."

Started in 1981 at the request of state and regional golf associations, the GHIN service has grown to serve more than 10,000 golf clubs and nearly two million golfers. It is an optional offering for clubs in meeting the policies of the USGA Handicap System that allows all golfers to compete on a relatively equal basis and enjoy a fair game.
