December 19, 2006

Far Hills, N.J. - A record 881 former professional golfers were approved as reinstated amateurs during the 2006 calendar year, marking the fifth consecutive year that the number increased.

"More and more former professionals are finding it worthwhile to complete the one- or two-year reinstatement process in order to take full advantage of the many competitive opportunities in amateur golf," said Tony Zirpoli, USGA senior director of regional affairs and amateur status.
