Erin Hills To Host 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship

Far Hills, N.J. - Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wis., has been selected as the host venue for the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, the United States Golf Association has announced. The championship will be played from June 16-21.

Erin Hills Golf Course is currently under construction and is being designed by the firm of Hurdzan, Fry and Whitten. It is scheduled to open in the summer of 2006. Owner Robert Lang of Delafield, Wis., bought the 581-acre property 35 miles northwest of Milwaukee in 1999 and began the golf course project two years later.

"All of the Erin Hills team is appreciative and honored that the USGA has selected Erin Hills as the site of the 2008 WAPL, said Lang, a Wisconsin-based real estate developer and entrepreneur. "Our goal is to build the most natural, challenging and traditional championship golf course we can build. We feel our goal has been confirmed with the honor to host this upcoming national championship."

The Women's Amateur Public Links is open to any female amateur who meets the handicap index limit requirement of 18.4. It is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.

Prior to 2008, the WAPL will be played in 2006 at the Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colo., from June 20-25. The site for 2007 has not been selected as yet.
