Eugene Country Club To Host 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur

Far Hills, N.J. - Eugene (Ore.) Country Club has been selected to host the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur championship, the United States Golf Association has announced. The championship will be played from August 4-10.

Eugene Country Club was designed by H. Chandler Egan and opened in 1925. Robert Trent Jones Sr. reversed the course in 1967, putting the tees where the greens were and the greens where the tees were.

The 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur will be the fourth USGA championship at the club. Previously, the club has hosted the 1964 U.S. Junior Amateur (won by Johnny Miller), the 1993 Mid-Amateur (won by Jeff Thomas), and the 2002 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur (won by Kathy Hartwiger).

Among the members at Eugene Country Club are 2000 U.S. Amateur champion Jeff Quinney, former PGA Tour player Casey Martin, and former PGA Tour and current Nationwide Tour player Brian Henninger.

The Women's Amateur, open to any female amateurs who meet the handicap index limit requirement of 5.4, is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.

Prior to 2008, the Women's Amateur will be played at the Witch Hollow Course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore., from August 7-13, 2006. The 2007 championship will be played at Crooked Stick Golf Club from August 6-12.
