The Olympic Club To Host 2012 Open

Far Hills, N.J. - The Olympic Club in Daly City, Calif., near San Francisco, will host the 2012 U.S. Open, the United States Golf Association has announced. The Championship is scheduled from June 14-17. It will be the fifth Open held at the Olympic Club.

The most recent Open at the Olympic Club was in 1998, won by Lee Janzen.  Other Open winners at Olympic were Jack Fleck in 1955, Billy Casper in 1966 and Scott Simpson in 1987. The Olympic Club will also be the site of the 2007 U.S. Amateur.

"We're delighted with the USGA's decision to return to Olympic," said Al Clifford, Club president.  ""Our course has never been in better shape and we eagerly look forward to 2012."

Overall, the Olympic Club has been host to eight previous USGA championships, including the 2004 U.S. Junior Amateur, won by Sihwan Kim.

Designed by Sam Whiting, The Olympic Club's Lake Course was opened in 1927.  The 1958 U.S. Amateur and 1981 U.S. Amateur championships were played at the club, won by Charles Coe and Nathanial Crosby, son of the legendary entertainer Bing Crosby, respectively.

Prior to 2012, the U.S. Open will be played from June 15-18, 2006, at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.; from June 14-17, 2007,at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.; from June 12-15, 2008, at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego, Calif.; from June 18-21, 2009, at Bethpage State Park (Black Course) in Farmingdale, N.Y.; from June 17-20, 2010, at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.,  and from June 16-19, 2011, at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.

The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
