Desert Forest Golf Club To Host 2007 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur

Far Hills, N.J. - Desert Forest Golf Club in Carefree, Ariz., has been selected by the United States Golf Association to be the site of the 2007 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship. The dates of the championship are Sept. 29-Oct. 4.

Designed by Robert 'Red' Lawrence , Desert Forest Golf Club opened in 1962. Previously, Desert Forest Golf Club hosted the 1990 USGA Senior Amateur Championship, won by Jackie Cummings , as well as many U.S. Mid-Amateur and U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur qualifiers. The Club has also hosted the Arizona State Amateur and will host the 2006 Trans Mississippi Four-Ball Championship.

In the rolling terrain of the Sonoran Desert, the course is set at an elevation of 2,500 feet and the fairways are bordered by native desert vegetation.

"The Desert Forest Golf Club and our entire membership are honored to have been selected to host the 2007 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship," said Gretchen Crosby , who will serve as co-general chairman with Leslie Turner . "We look forward to welcoming players, officials and spectators to our beautiful and challenging golf course."

Prior to the 2007 championship, the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur will be played from Oct. 21-26, 2006, at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.

The U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur is open to female amateurs, 25 years of age and older with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 9.4. Begun in 1987, the Women's Mid-Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
