Congressional (Md.) Country Club To
Host 2011 U.S. Open; 2009 U.S. Amateur

Far Hills, N.J. - The Blue Course at Congressional Country Club
in Bethesda, Md., has been selected as the site of the 2011 U.S.
Open Championship, the United States Golf Association has announced.
The championship is scheduled from June 16-19.

At the same time, it was announced that the 2009 U.S. Amateur
will be conducted at Congressional Country Club as well, utilizing
both its Blue and Gold courses for the two rounds of stroke play
before shifting to the Blue Course for the six rounds of match
play.
Designed by Devereux Emmett in 1924 and renovated by Rees Jones
in 1990, Congressional has been the site of five previous USGA
championships, including the 1964 and 1997 U.S. Opens, won by
Ken Venturi and Ernie Els, respectively. The club also hosted
the 1995 U.S. Senior Open, won by Tom Weiskopf; the 1949 U.S.
Junior Amateur, won by Gay Brewer; and the 1959 Women's Amateur,
won by Barbara McIntire. It also was the home of the Kemper Open
on the PGA Tour from 1980-1986.
"We are excited about having the U.S. Open return to Congressional
Country Club," said Paul Klinedinst, who will serve as co-chairman
for the championship along with Ben Brundred III. "The nation's
capital area and golf's national championship are a perfect pairing.
We look forward to again showcasing Congressional Country Club
on the sport's main stage."
The U.S. Open is the most prominent of the USGA's 13 national
championships, with the first Open conducted in 1895 at Newport
(R.I.) Country Club.
Prior to 2011, the U.S. Open will be played from June 16-19, 2005,
at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C.; from
June 15-18, 2006, at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.;
from June 14-17, 2007, at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.;
from June 12-15, 2008, at Torrey Pines Golf Club in Torrey Pines,
Calif.; from June 18-21, 2009, at Bethpage State Park (Black Course)
in Farmingdale, N.Y.; and from June 17-20, 2010, at Pebble Beach
Golf Links, Pebble Beach, Calif.
Prior to 2009, the U.S. Amateur will be played from Aug. 22-28,
2005, at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.; from Aug. 21-27, 2006,
at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.; from Aug. 20-26,
2007, at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif.; and from Aug.
18-24, 2008, at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst,
N.C.
