Far Hills,
N.J. - Shadow Hawk Golf Club, in the Houston suburb of Richmond, Texas, has been selected by the United
States Golf Association as the site of the 2005 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur
Championship. The championship will be played from Sept. 10-15.
Opened in
1999 and designed by Rees Jones, Shadow Hawk Golf Club features an
abundance of large pecan trees, rolling fairways, small and mostly elevated
greens and a 70-acre lake. While Shadow
Hawk has hosted qualifiers for other USGA championships, this will be the first
national championship held at the facility.
"To have
the opportunity to host a national championship is something special," said Paul Marchand, general manager and head golf
professional. "We look forward to the
chance to showcase our facility and offer a challenging test of golf to the
best women amateurs."
The Women's
Mid-Amateur is open to female amateur golfers, 25 and older, who have a USGA
Handicap not exceeding 9.4. Among the notable winners are Carole Semple Thompson, Ellen Port and Sarah LeBrun Ingram. Corey Weworski of Carlsbad, Calif., won the 2004 championship.
The USGA conducts
13 national championships each year, including the U.S. Open and the U.S.
Women's Open. Ten of these championships are strictly for amateurs. Visit
