The Apawamis Club To Host 2005 USGA Senior Women's Amateur
January 16, 2004 Far Hills, N.J. - The Apawamis Club in Rye, N.Y., has been selected as the site of the 2005 USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship, the United States Golf Association has announced. The championship will be conducted from Sept. 17-22, 2005.

Apawamis, which was established in 1890 and built in its present location in 1899, hosted its first USGA championship in 1911, with the U.S. Amateur, won by Harold Hilton. Hollis Stacy won her second U.S. Girls' Junior Championship at The Apawamis Club in 1970, and the USA captured the 1978 Curtis Cup at Apawamis.

Marion "Sis" Choate, a member of The Apawamis Club until her death in 1988, captured the second USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship, in 1963.

"The Apawamis Club is excited to have been selected for this prestigious Championship, continuing a century long tradition of hosting important amateur events," said Nancy Paton, general chairman for the 2005 Senior Women's Amateur. "We look forward to celebrating with the 2005 champion, as we celebrated when our own Sis Choate won the second USGA Senior Women's Championship in 1963."

The 2004 USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship will be played at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif., from Oct. 9-14.
