Tickets Now Available For 2005 Walker Cup Match At Chicago Golf Club


Far Hills, N.J. – Tickets for the 40th Walker Cup Match, scheduled from Aug. 13-14, 2005, at Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill., will go on sale April 15, 2004. The Walker Cup Match is a biennial amateur golf competition between a 10-man team from the United States of America and another from Great Britain and Ireland.
The Walker Cup Match consists of eight singles and four foursomes (alternate shot) matches on each day of the competition. The Great Britain and Ireland team has won the last three matches, in 1999, 2001 and 2003. The USA leads the series history, 31-7-1.
Past USA Walker Cup players have included Justin Leonard, Davis Love III, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, Corey Pavin, Curtis Strange and Tiger Woods.
A grounds season ticket package for $75 each includes a ticket for Saturday and Sunday’s matches plus a ticket for the formal practice round and the patriotic opening ceremony on Friday afternoon, Aug. 12. The Trophy Club season ticket package for $125 includes three daily tickets and daily access to the Trophy Club, an exclusive tented facility with upgraded food and beverages for sale. Matches will be played each morning and afternoon of Aug. 13-14 and the closing ceremony will be held immediately following the final match.
To order tickets, visit www.walkercup.org/tickets or call the United States Golf Association at (908) 234-2300, ext. 1407, to receive a ticket application. A limited number of tickets will be sold. Also, no phone or faxed orders will be accepted. Tickets will be mailed in July 2005.
The captain (coach) of the USA team is Bob Lewis, 59, of Pepper Pike, Ohio, a four-time Walker Cup team member and three-time USGA championship runner-up. The USA team will be selected by late June 2005 by the USGA.
Historic Chicago Golf Club has hosted 12 USGA championships, including four U.S. Opens. The 1928 Walker Cup Match also was played at Chicago Golf Club, with the great Robert (Bobby) Jones going undefeated in a USA win.
