U.S. Open Sold Out For 18th Consecutive Year

Far Hills, N.J. -- Tickets for the 2004 U.S. Open golf championship, to be held June 17-20 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., are sold out.
The general public was able to submit ticket applications between June 16 and Aug. 15, 2003 and the computerized random drawing was completed on Aug. 28.
This is the 18th consecutive year the U.S. Open has been a sellout, beginning with the 1987 Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
Shinnecock Hills will be hosting the U.S. Open for the fourth time. James Foulis won in 1896, Raymond Floyd in 1986 and Corey Pavin in 1995.
Jim Furyk is the defending champion, having won the 2003 U.S. Open at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club by three strokes over Stephen Leaney.
