Longmeadow Country Club To Host 2005 Junior Amateur

September 2, 2003
Far Hills, N.J. - Longmeadow Country Club in Longmeadow, Mass., has been selected as the site of the 2005 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, the United States Golf Association has announced. The championship will be conducted from July 18-23.

Longmeadow, a Donald Ross-designed golf course built in 1922, served as host of the 1995 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship. With its selection to host the 2005 U.S. Junior Amateur, it will become the tenth club to host both the U.S. Junior Amateur and the U.S. Girls' Junior.

"The experience we had with the Girls' Junior was nothing short of phenomenal," said Russ Whiteford, a past president of Longmeadow and co-chair of the 2005 Junior Amateur. "With the experience that we enjoyed with the Girls' Junior, our membership can't wait to have the Junior Amateur."

Longmeadow underwent an extensive construction project in 1999. The work, done by golf course architect Ron Pritchard, involved bunker restoration, tree elimination, and extensive greens work to restore the course to that envisioned in Ross' early-century, original prints. Pritchard also added transition areas around the greens and constructed new championship tees.

The 2004 U.S. Junior Amateur championship will be played at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., from July 19-24.
