Great Britain & Ireland Team Profiles

Wolstenholme already holds the unique GB&I record of having played on three Cup winning teams (1995, 1999 & 2001), and now has the opportunity to put that record beyond reach in leading home based players to a further success. Already this season he has added to his golfing career with a second win in the Amateur Championship at Royal Troon and followed that by lifting the Scottish Stroke Play title at Turnberry. He is now England's most capped player, earlier this year surpassing the target previously set by Peter McEvoy, and will be a hard man to beat at Ganton where he won his first Amateur Championship in 1991.
Edwards, the golf coordinator for the Welsh Golfing Union, played in his first Walker Cup at Ocean Forest in 2001 and since then has consolidated his position as one of Britain's top players. This year he has put together a series of strong performances, finishing third in the Duncan Putter and fourth in both the Lytham Trophy and the Brabazon Trophy at Hunstanton.
Wilson has spent the last three years developing his game at Augusta State where he quickly established himself as their No. 1 player. The 22 year old is currently ranked 12th in the U.S. College Rankings but for a two week spell earlier this year was the No. 1 ranked player. He made the first team All American both this year and last and earlier in the season won three of the top events for college golfers - the Dukes Golf Classic, the Gator Invitational and the Cleveland Golf Augusta State Invitational.
Skelton reached the final of the recent English Amateur Championship, capping a swift rise from top level boys golf to Walker Cup selection. Last year he was the European Boys Stroke Play champion and represented GB&I in the Jacques Leglise Trophy. He is the holder of the Welsh Stroke Play title.
Recently, Gordon defeated Stuart Wilson in the final of the Scottish Amateur Championship. Gordon was a convincing winner of the 2002 Scottish Order of Merit and in the process won no fewer than seven ranking events. So far this year, in addition to the national title, he has won the Craigmillar Park Open and successfully defended his West of Scotland title.
One of Scotland's most consistent players, the Abertay University student quickly hit top form by winning the Scottish Champion of Champions and then the Lytham Trophy. He followed these successes with a fourth place in the St Andrews Links Trophy, sixth place in the Scottish Stroke Play and was the losing finalist to Gordon in the Scottish Championship.
Inglis is a former Boys Amateur Champion with international credentials spanning the period from 1995 to the present. As a junior he won the Golf Foundation Under 14 Championship, the Scottish Under 16s in 1997 and '98, the Junior Open Championship at Formby in 1998 and in 2001 first represented Scotland at Senior level. Currently studying at Tulsa University, he has won five collegiate events including a run of three in a row. He was a member of the Palmer Cup team, consisting of European students, which recently defeated their American counterparts in Georgia.
The Irish international is one player to find success in Australia, in winning this year's New South Wales Medal and the New South Wales Amateur Championship. His collection of titles started in 1996 with the Irish Boys Championship and then the Irish Youths in 1998, 1999 and 2000. So far this year he has finished second in the South of Ireland, runner-up in the Duncan Putter, third in the Lytham Trophy and tied for eighth place in the Irish Stroke Play.
Fox is the second Irish player making his debut in the Walker Cup but comes with a wealth of experience in the cut and thrust of match play. He was first selected for Ireland in 1996 and has been in the team ever since. This year however, he has excelled in stroke play, winning the Irish Stroke Play, tying for fourth in both the St Andrews Links and Lytham Trophies and only recently winning the Irish Order of Merit ahead of Moriarty.
Joins fellow Welsh international Edwards in the team. Manley won the Welsh Match Play title on Saturday to add to his win in the Duncan Putter and his second place in the Irish Stroke Play Championship. He also had top finishes in the Brabazon Trophy, the St Andrews Links Trophy and the Scottish Stroke Play.
