Gold Mountain Golf Course To Host 2006 Amateur Public Links Championship
Far Hills, N.J. - Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash., has been selected as the site of the 2006 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, the United States Golf Association has announced. The championship will be played from July 10-15.
Gold Mountain will be hosting its first USGA championship. The championship will be played on the Olympic Course, which was designed by John Harbottle and opened in 1996. The 36-hole facility was opened in 1971 and accommodates nearly 105,000 rounds per year.
Gold Mountain has previously served as a site for U.S. Open qualifying in 1999, the PGA Pacific Northwest Sectional Championships and the Washington State Amateur. It will host U.S. Open qualifying again in 2003.
"We are thrilled to host the 2006 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship and have it return to the Pacific Northwest," said Scott Alexander, Gold Mountain director of golf. "We're very proud of the championship Olympic Course and the promise of a challenging field. Our wilderness setting and Olympic Mountain backdrop combined with superb playing conditions make us a truly unique municipal site."
Past winners of the Amateur Public Links Championship include Billy Mayfair, David Berganio, Trevor Immelman and Hunter Haas. The Amateur Public Links was begun in 1922 for amateurs with no playing privileges at private courses/clubs.
