Position

3 Month P.J. Boatwright, Jr. Internship (May - August) - Jackson, MS



Primary Duties

To assist the Executive Director with day to day operations of the state junior golf association and learn all aspects of golf administration. The Mississippi Junior Golf Association conducts an active tournament program, and the intern will assist with the overall administration of these tournaments.

  • This includes: Establishing entry criteria for specific events; designing and distributing entry forms; accepting entries and establishing the field for each tournament; making advance visits to tournament sites; being on-site during the event to assist with starting; scoring; pairings; posting pairings and results on the Junior Golf page of our website; various areas of tournament administration; and Assist in creating and sending MJGA newsletters.
  • Attend and assist in the administration of the MJGA sanctioned tournaments
  • Learn about budgeting and operating within a budget
  • Assist in administering the MJGA Tour Tournaments
  • Field questions from MJGA Players and their parents
  • Calculate and update the points for MJGA Boys’ and Girls’ Player of the Year, Cup Team, and BankPlus/Edwin Watts Junior Pro Am.

The association will provide training in course marking and set-up for tournament play, the Rules of Golf, and general administration of junior championships.




Mississippi Junior Golf Association

The MJGA is the state junior golf association within the Mississippi Junior Golf Foundation, and provides the following opportunities for junior golfers:

  • Educational Seminars of the Rules of Golf and Golf Etiquette
  • Importance of proper procedures for tournaments and on course conduct
  • Five (5) one day tournaments for all age groups
  • An outreach program to get more youth involved in golf, particularly minorities
  • Assist in High School State Championships
  • MS Junior Cup Matches
  • BankPlus/Edwin Watts Junior Pro Am
  • Bill Cass Scholarship
  • Assist in fundraising projects for the Mississippi Junior Golf Foundation
  • Birdies for Charity
  • Pro Am Fundrasier



Other Duties

The intern will assist the Mississippi Golf Association with the administration of the MS State Amateur Championship and the MS Sports Medicine Father-Son/Daughter Championship.



Internship Details
  • The PJ Boatwright Interns must live in the Jackson Metro Area
  • There is no housing assistance provided and must have their own reliable transportation
  • Salary of $1550 per month

  • We are looking for an aggressive individual that can take an assignment and see it through with minimal supervision. This internship will provide a hands-on learning experience for any individual wanting to increase their knowledge of golf administration.
