Position

7 Month P.J. Boatwright, Jr. Internship (May- November) - Jackson, MS



Primary Duties

To assist the Executive Director with day to day operations of the state golf association and learn all aspects of golf administration. The Mississippi Golf Association conducts an active tournament program, and the intern will assist with the overall administration of these tournaments.

This includes: Establishing entry criteria for specific events; designing and distributing entry forms; accepting entries and establishing the field for each tournament; making advance visits to tournament sites; being on-site during the event to assist with starting, scoring, pairings, and various areas of tournament administration.

The association will provide training in course marking and set-up for tournament play, the Rules of Golf, and general administration of state championships.

Assist the Executive Director with the MS Cup Matches; other research projects for the association to grow membership and tournament participation; and other duties assigned by the Executive Director.




Communication

Update the MGA website with tournament pairings, results, and other Mississippi Golf Association golf information. Update the MGA website with forms and pages for 2009.

Send results to the press and notify the press of upcoming events.

Assist the Office Administration with communication to players of upcoming events.

Membership mail outs, club communication, e-communication with MGA Members.




Secondary Duties

  • Assist the Manger of Membership Services with GHIN and TPP questions
  • To assist with the administration of the Mississippi Junior Golf Association:
    • Viking Classic Junior Pro Am
    • MS Junior Amateur Championship
    • MS Junior Cup Matches



Other Duties

The intern will be provided basic training in USGA Course and Slope Rating procedures, and will likely assist rating teams with course ratings when appropriate. The intern will learn about setting up budgets for tournaments and operating within them.



Internship Details
  • The PJ Boatwright Interns must live in the Jackson Metro Area
  • There is no housing assistance provided and must have their own reliable transportation
  • Salary of $1550 per month
  • Internship begins the first of May and continues through the first of November
  • PJ Boatwright Intern must attend the USGA Intern Orientation in May, at Far Hills, NJ. All expenses are paid by the USGA and the MGA
