About the USGA: 


The USGA conducts the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international matches. Together with The R&A, the USGA governs the game worldwide, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, Equipment Standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings. Position Summary: 


The Volunteer Liaison is responsible for the day-to-day management of the on-site Championships Office including providing assistance to the Championships Manager, Assistant Manager and Operations Manager with various Championships responsibilities including Championships office management and volunteer assistance.


What You Can Expect 


  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Championships office by answering incoming telephone calls, ordering office supplies, assisting with office visitors, maintaining the office appearance as clean and organized and assisting with administrative duties for other staff members as needed.
  • Create and manage an office calendar for all meetings, staff/vendor visits and important dates.  Create and manage a filing system to include all pertinent Championships agreements.
  • Manage accounts payable and process purchase orders while maintaining accurate records of all files.
  • Assist with supervision of Championships office interns with integration of duties related to the volunteer program.
  • With Committee Chairs, monitor the Volunteer Services committee prior to and during the week of the Championships by scheduling volunteers, assigning tasks and providing necessary supplies for duties.
  • Act as the point of contact for questions regarding volunteers.  Serve as a Championship contact in the Championships Office during the 2014 U.S. Open Championships by answering telephone, radio calls and handling any office walk-ins.
  • Assist with the Volunteer program, to include but not limited to day-to-day communication, newsletters, invoicing, uniform processing, credentials, scheduling and training session materials.
  • Act as the onsite social media (i.e. Facebook, Twitter and etc.) contact and work closely with the USGA Digital Media department on all postings.



Working Relationships 


USGA:  U.S. Open Championships team members including, but not limited to, Operations, Merchandise, Corporate Hospitality/MSG Promotions, Admissions, Security, Media Relations, Regional Affairs, PC Services/Information Systems.


External:  2014 President’s Council, host club staff, host club members, local organizing committee, committee chairpersons/marshal captains, local community and government officials, general public, volunteers and vendors.


What You Bring to the USGA 


  • Must have good computer skills including a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally to a wide range of people (i.e. volunteers, vendors, general public, staff, players, caddies, player representatives, media and local officials)
  • Ability to problem solve, think “outside-the-box”, evaluate an operation and identify potential issues and solutions quickly and effectively
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks at once and effectively prioritize to complete tasks on time
  • Ability to work with others on a common goal and delegate when necessary
  • Ability to speak publicly in the form of volunteer update/training session presentations
  • Ability to supervise office interns and additional staff as necessary
  • Ability to work long hours, including weekends and holidays as necessary, at a fast and efficient pace
  • Ability to lift items that weigh in excess of 20 pounds
