About the USGA: 

The USGA conducts the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international matches. Together with The R&A, the USGA governs the game worldwide, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, Equipment Standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings. Position Summary: 

This position is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the USGA and GHIN Enterprise network environments; including, but not limited to e-Mail Servers, associated Applications Servers, VoIP communication networks, Unified Communications systems, and internal wireless networks. Assist in support of the USGA’s data communication and associated server infrastructure capabilities are functional and reliable at all times. Work with internal IT staff and other staff to assure data communication needs are met. Resolve technical problems. Assist in maintenance and upgrades, support data center and cabling systems. Perform other duties as assigned by Manager, Systems & Network Operations that may/could be outside of your technical area of expertise.

What You Can Expect 

  • Support and maintain network systems/applications and service ability/uptime requirements.
  • Assist in monitoring network/system performance by identifying system and network events, security and environmental alarms.
  • Gather network performance statistics and analyze network issues for reporting to senior network staff.
  • Review network system logs daily. Troubleshoot and report as needed.
  • Administer network user accounts/Active Directory/security permissions/network access.
  • Work with network operations staff on server and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Perform proactive maintenance as required; including hardware, operating system and supported software upgrades and patch installations
  • Enforce policies, procedure and standards and insure their conformance.
  • Maintain and monitor AV/AS/AM and real time monitoring/alert systems.
  • Respond to service outages; maintain on-call and off hour support as needed.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies.
  • Support all voice/telephony daily functionality including moves, adds, changes, problem resolution, configuration and documentation.
  • Monitor network backups including offsite DR systems.
  • Restore/recover data as required.
  • Assist with development, implementation and testing of disaster recovery/business continuity planning.
  • Respond to trouble-tickets/cases/tasks via CRM and/or through client interaction.
  • Function as next tier technical support on network related issues, desktop configurations, technical questions and advanced troubleshooting. Determine resolution procedures.
  • Assist in automated software deployment and imaging for desktop systems.
  • Keep network log books and manuals current and available online and offline.
  • Provide on-site setup and technical support to USGA staff as required.
  • Additional duties assigned as needed.

What You Bring to the USGA 

  • 2 years relevant work experience in network environment, including, but not limited to, systems administration, infrastructure planning, network design and support required
  • Strong and current knowledge of LAN/WAN,/WLAN networking concepts and technologies; Internet, e-mail systems, telecommunications and data communications; network and desktop operating systems, software packages, and software utilities.
  • Possession of a current, accredited network administration certificate(s) preferred
  • Ability to understand, maintain and support approved network hardware.
  • Working knowledge of network hardware including servers, switches, firewalls, routers and cabling.
  • Proficiency with network operating systems and server based application software. (Microsoft preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate orally and written in a professional manner.
  • Ability to learn new software and hardware packages; adapt to changes in technology; work independently and as a team member; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all those contacted during the course of work.
  • Ability to travel, and work off hours, after hours and serve on rotational, 24x7 on-call basis required.
  • Required availability via USGA approved mobile phone/device
  • Ability to lift, carry and move computer equipment.
