The USGA conducts the premier championships in golf, including the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international competitions including the Walker and Curtis Cup Matches. We govern the game on a global basis with The R&A, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, Equipment Standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings. In addition, the USGA’s Course Rating and Handicap systems are used on six continents in more than 50 countries.

Position Summary: 

As a member of the USGA Human Resources/People team, the Manager, Internal Community and Communications is responsible for building out internal communications processes and platforms that support organizational, culture and values transformation. This is a brand new role. We are working to become a more vibrant community of engaged colleagues and a recognized great place to work. You will play an integral role in this journey by influencing greater employee connection, communication, information management/sharing and staff recognition.

What You Can Expect 

  • Support the development and execution of an internal communications strategy that embraces all areas of executive and employee communications to further promote employee engagement.
  • Serve as primary editor, writer, and producer of Human Resources and culture based content communications and help support other association leaders and departments to develop relevant and inspiring content for internal use, distribution and collaboration across teams and staff.
  • Provide editorial and messaging strategy and support for all USGA leaders for key internal meetings and events such as quarterly Town Hall events, with a specific focus on strategic goals, organizational initiatives, and news related to change efforts across the organization.
  • Be a culture and communications advocate and influencer by leading and owning efforts with IT in modernizing and gaining adoption of new approaches for online communications. Introduce creative use and applications of social tools to help staff collaborate, stay informed, get connected and be engaged
  • Support efforts to create and facilitate USGA staff recognition programs and celebration efforts (online and offline) with the Director of HR and Chief People Officer
  • Be the owner of our career and employment branding through, social networks and any external facing channels
  • Identify and establish relationships with advocates and influencers in our USGA employee community and provide internal communications, guidance and support 
  • Create and maintain an internal communications calendar
  • Additional duties assigned as needed

What You Bring to the USGA 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Sports Management, or related field required
  • 3-5 years of related professional work experience as a multi-platform writer, editor or content producer
  • Previous roles could include: Internal Communications Lead or Manager, Customer Marketing Manager or Enterprise Community Manager
  • Strong knowledge and application of social media platforms and ecosystems like Sharepoint, Jive, Yammer, or Lithium
  • Understanding and experience with content development, user trends and behavior
  • Experience in branding/marketing to internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven track-record of developing and delivering social media content
  • Knowledgeable and comfortable with widely used platforms such as Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
  • The passion to help a well-known, mission-driven and historic non-profit sports organization evolve as a progressive workplace and be a key contributor in making it happen
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, executive presence and professionalism. You should be able to express yourself, inspire and motivate others in a collaborative way in all settings (discussions, presentations, blogging, and social media)
  • Positive attitude and desire to learn
  • Being candid, inclusive, and friendly while working with the rest of our organization
  • An analytical mind to measure the results of your efforts. You should have no problem preparing presentations and digging into the research to influence change
  • Project management and problem solving skills and able to multitask while meeting ongoing deadlines
  • Interest in and understanding of the USGA and golf, both historic and present
