The USGA conducts the premier championships in golf, including the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international competitions including the Walker and Curtis Cup Matches. We govern the game on a global basis with The R&A, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, Equipment Standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings. In addition, the USGA’s Course Rating and Handicap systems are used on six continents in more than 50 countries.

Position Summary: 

As a member of the USGA Human Resources/People team, the Manager, Compensation and Rewards is responsible for designing and administering USGA compensation programs and processes, for all levels and classifications aligned with our culture and values as a nationally recognized not-for-profit sports organization. What You Can Expect 

  • Help design a compensation and rewards strategy that ensures our total pay practices, structures, processes and programs are competitive and compliant and serve as one mechanism to attract and retain great people for the USGA
  • Provide analysis, recommendations, and guidance regarding compensation program development and implementation
  • Review, approve and track pay recommendations
  • In conjunction with the Senior HR Business Partner, conduct job evaluations for new and existing positions in order to properly categorize positions for level and compliance with FLSA regulations
  • Provide strategic compensation and rewards consulting to leaders including market pricing in support of talent acquisition of unique staff or organizational challenges
  • Drive company salary survey participation and analysis and ensure surveys are submitted on time. Analyze survey results and determine necessary course of action
  • Ensure significant pay issues critical to USGA success are identified and escalated with appropriate recommendations for resolution
  • Effectively communicate market data, trends, and/or projections on compensation issues
  • Develop annual salary structures, merit increase recommendations, geographic differentials, and compensation administration criteria
  • Develop training for leaders and staff on USGA pay practices and related philosophies
  • Lead the annual compensation planning process (base and incentives) by developing budgets, decision making tools (spreadsheets, guidelines), calendar, and reports. Work closely with HR business partner to ensure accuracy and integrity
  • Partner with benefits/payroll colleagues to influence the design and strategic approach to rewards, benefits, and wellness programs
  • Regularly monitor USGA adherence to internal policies and external legislation, e.g., FLSA, Pay Equity   
  • Prepare and distribute compensation and rewards information according to federal and state regulations 
  • Assist in benefit/wellness presentations and training
  • Additional duties assigned as needed
 

What You Bring to the USGA 

  • 5-7 years of experience as a compensation professional with proven ability to design administer and support compensation programs and approaches at all levels
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics or a related field required
  • Ongoing professional compensation certifications or work towards Certified Compensation Professional
  • Expert proficiency in most standard business software application, particularly Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to design and execute ad hoc compensation reports and extracts for analysis, costing, modeling, or data manipulation
  • Experience working in or with benefits and wellness teams
  • Experience with HRIS platforms, to maintain basic job information, reporting information, and other related compensation information and tables
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work with all levels in the organization
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Must have polished presentation skills and strong project management skills
  • Cultivates a reputation of credibility and integrity within the organization as an authentic, trusted and respected expert
  • Project management and problem solving skills and able to multitask while meeting ongoing deadlines
  • Being candid, professional, inclusive and friendly while working with the rest of our organization
