About the USGA: 

The USGA conducts the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international matches, attracting players and fans from more than 160 countries. Together with The R&A, the USGA governs the game worldwide, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, equipment standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings. Position Summary: 

The Manager, Branded and Special Events is responsible for the delivery and execution of USGA branded special events. The role focuses primarily on branded event scoping, development and planning oriented toward golf industry stakeholders, USGA members or the general golfer population (e.g. annual “U.S. Open Fan Experience”). Internally, the role works cross-functionally and – principally – externally with agency partners, vendors, and sub-contractors. Success is measured by the clear expression of strategic and executional direction, audience-related metrics including foot traffic, attendee satisfaction surveys, and favorable brand health attributes, as well as on-time and on-budget event delivery.


What You Can Expect 

  • Building on the USGA strategy to enhance external stakeholder engagement, develop a thoughtful annual event strategy with corresponding budget that encapsulates all event or experiential activities (led by the “U.S. Open Fan Experience”)
  • Create annual events calendar itemizing work plans behind all events, and ensure clear and timely communication of deadlines to all relevant stakeholders - internal and external
  • Plan, coordinate and manage special events
  • Develop individual scopes of work per project tied to annual budget and forecast, and follow strict adherence to ensure compliance against objectives
  • Oversee all event logistics (i.e. securing site locations; securing hotels; booking venues; contracts; arranging for food, décor and entertainment; planning travel & accommodations; building run-of-show programming; etc.)
  • Conduct post-event research, and clearly and concisely report out on performance across all key internal touch points so USGA key area leads are aware of event success or areas of opportunity
  • Build close working relationship with internal Finance team to ensure all requirements for purchase order creation, invoicing and monthly tracking are clear and transparent
  • Manage annual events budget
  • Additional duties assigned as needed
 

What You Bring to the USGA 

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Marketing, or related field
  • 3-5 years of work experience in an event / meeting planning agency, or event / meeting planning role within a reputable branded corporate, sports, or national not-for-profit organization
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Proven negotiating skills
  • Superior organizational, planning, communication (both verbal and written), and presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks conforming to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
  • Proven ability to partner, communicate and collaborate across multiple disciplines and organizational groups
  • Consistent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results
  • Service-oriented, and cool under pressure
  • Core understanding of the USGA and its properties (i.e. Championships, Governance and Service to the Game)
  • Interest in golf, or familiarity with golf vernacular, a plus
  • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), event management technologies, and customer relationship management software
  • Ability to travel required
