About the USGA: 

The USGA conducts the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international matches. Together with The R&A, the USGA governs the game worldwide, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, Equipment Standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings. The USGA’s working jurisdiction comprises the United States, its territories and Mexico.

The USGA is a global leader in the development and support of sustainable golf course management practices. It serves as a primary steward for the game’s history and funds an ongoing “For the Good of the Game” charitable giving program. Additionally, the USGA’s Course Rating and Handicap systems are used on six continents in more than 50 countries

Position Summary: 

The Executive Assistant serves as main point of contact for Executive Committee members. S/He coordinates Executive Committee Spring and Fall Meetings and assists in transportation coordination for USGA Annual Meeting. S/He provides administrative support to USGA President as needed and coordinates periodic visits by USGA President and Vice President. Supports USGA Rules Hospitality for the U.S. Open.


What You Can Expect 

Department Specialty: Executive Committee Liaison

  • Serve as main point of contact for Executive Committee members
  • Provide administrative assistance, as needed, to President – Including maintenance of “President’s Calendar” database and reporting of information; coordination of periodic visits to Golf House to include meeting planning, transportation, accommodations and catering
  • Serve as backup administrative support for Executive Director
  • Create and maintain database for maintenance of contact information and championship assignment details (consider combining with President’s Calendar database)
  • Coordinate Annual Orientation for new Executive Committee Members
  • Assist with provision of stationery, uniforms, pins, etc., as required

Assist in Coordination of Executive Committee Meetings Throughout Year

  • USGA Annual Meeting (February): Assist with transportation coordination during USGA Annual Meeting
  • Coordinate Spring Meeting (May/June) prior to U.S. Open
  • Coordinate Fall Meeting (October/November)

U.S. Open Championship

  • Administrative support of U.S. Open Hospitality (Rules Hospitality) to include Executive Committee, Past Presidents and EVIP invitees
  • Travel to U.S. Open and provide on-site support in Rules Hospitality

General Administrative Support:

  • Assist in meeting planning for periodic special group events (i.e., Global meetings, Executive Retreats, etc.) as requested
  • Provide administrative assistance to Manager, Executive Operations as needed

Joseph C. Dey, Jr. Award and Bob Jones Award

  • Administer nominating process for Joseph C. Dey, Jr. Award and Bob Jones Award, whichincludes working closely with the Chairman (Executive Committee Member) of respective committee over a six-month period as well as supervising two large mailings (2,000 plus pieces of mail) for each award annually, plus multiple follow-up emails throughout the process.

What You Bring to the USGA 

  • Degree/diploma in Secretarial Science or related field (or at least 2 years’ experience)
  • Strong proficiency and good understanding of Microsoft Office including Access, Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Excellent telephone and interpersonal skills – diplomatic, friendly, personable, cooperative
  • Able to prioritize and meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Able to work independently; reliable and flexible
  • Extremely well organized and detail oriented
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Professional (preferred but not required)

Additional Comments: 

This position will require:

  • Travel to site of Annual Meeting and U.S. Open (10-20 days per year)
  • Willingness to work overtime as requested
