Working closely with the Managing Director, the Director, Public Relations will lead, develop and implement public relations activities for the United States Golf Association (USGA), collaborating with key marketing units (Broadcast/Digital Media, Marketing, Members Program, Merchandise, Partnerships) and various business functions (Rules & Competitions, Handicapping, Green Section, USGA Museum, USGA Test Center, Regional Affairs and Public Services) to help elevate the USGA’s national championships and create positive visibility and awareness for key brand, governance and health-of-the-game initiatives.
The Director is responsible for managing the Public Relations team and collaborating with the Championship Communications unit, as well as overseeing the day-to-day management of PR agencies that support the USGA’s strategic business objectives, ensuring efficient and thorough communications and collaboration between agency and internal communications teams. The agencies, under the direction of the Director, will be responsible for offering strategic guidance and effective implementation of PR strategies; developing and implementing innovative approaches to campaign, event, and content development and delivery, and identifying other opportunities to promote and protect the USGA brand. As part of this work, the Director will work with the Managing Director for agency evaluation and will ensure that external PR agencies are well aligned with other USGA agency partners (including advertising agencies, broadcast partners, corporate partners, etc.) dedicated to the USGA’s business functions.
The Director will be hands-on, performing as a highly capable external representative of the USGA brand and effectively representing the brand via direct engagement with the media and by helping lead the Association’s overall proactive media relations program.
