About the USGA: 

The USGA conducts the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international matches. Together with The R&A, the USGA governs the game worldwide, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, Equipment Standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings. The USGA’s working jurisdiction comprises the United States, its territories and Mexico.

The USGA is a global leader in the development and support of sustainable golf course management practices. It serves as a primary steward for the game’s history and funds an ongoing “For the Good of the Game” charitable giving program. Additionally, the USGA’s Course Rating and Handicap systems are used on six continents in more than 50 countries.

Position Summary: 

The Director, Marketing will be responsible for the development and implementation of integrated marketing programs that support the USGA’s strategic priorities.  As a newly created position at the USGA, the Director, Marketing will have the opportunity to help the association organize and define its marketing function.  He/she will coordinate a variety of marketing initiatives aimed at building the association’s brand, understanding its core audiences, implementing consumer outreach efforts, and driving growth through its revenue generating functions such as membership, merchandise, hospitality, and ticketing.

What You Can Expect 

  • Collaborate across USGA functions to develop, create and implement strategic and tactical marketing programs that support USGA priorities (e.g. Pace of Play, USGA Championships, etc.)
  • Coordinate integrated initiatives related to brand awareness, promotion, industry events, collateral and content development, and other efforts to convey a unified and distinctive leadership presence to USGA stakeholders
  • Establish the brand tone for the organization and develop a leading creative services capability through both in house and third parties
  • Develop and manage a centralized market research function for the USGA to help understand its core audiences and track its brand health
  • Work with the Communications department to drive the USGA’s marketing communications strategy in a manner that enhances brand equity and awareness
  • Support the Broadcast and Digital Media function to maximize marketing opportunities through key broadcast and digital partnerships
  • Collaborate with the Partnerships team to leverage corporate partnerships to enhance USGA brand health measures
  • Support core revenue-generating functions (e.g. ticketing, membership, hospitality, merchandise) with integrated marketing ideas and cross-functional assets
  • Manage vendors to produce and deliver effective and efficient contributions
  • Manage the marketing budget and support the development of department plans and priorities

What You Bring to the USGA 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university;
  • 8+ years of experience in consumer marketing;
  • Strong knowledge of campaign development process;
  • Experience in applying market research and analytics;  
  • Strong client service orientation and experience;
  • Experience identifying and managing outside vendors;
  • Excellent relationship building skills;
  • General knowledge of golf industry a plus; 
  • Excellent communications skills;
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
