Position Summary: 

 The Digital Publisher and Content Producer will be responsible for the strategic management, presentation, posting and accuracy of all content that appears on USGA digital channels (USGA websites and social media networks). This position will play a key role in planning, programming and editing the Association’s digital channels, while serving as a key contact for USGA Departments and programs that contribute to these channels. This position will collaborate with the Digital Media (Web Master) and IT teams in all design, style and communication activities that affect the USGA’s digital channels and other broad projects.

 

The ideal candidate will be a solutions-oriented self-starter who thinks strategically and can handle multiple tasks simultaneously with efficiency and effectiveness. S/he must be an excellent writer and editor who is well-versed in digital publishing and website programming. Experience posting text, photos and videos, as well as familiarity with content management systems and social media are must haves. Our candidate will have experience working in a dynamic environment and managing communications across multiple audiences and approvers. Additionally, s/he will have strong interpersonal and project management skills, and a passion for the game of golf.


Duties 

  • Manage messaging and storytelling on USGA digital sites by executing the rotation and posting delivery of content and multimedia assets (video, photos, infographics, etc.)  Maintain content, event and publishing calendars/schedule for websites and social media networks.  Work with the Manager of Creative Services and other managers to assign and schedule USGA staff and freelance writers to insure timely and professional execution of content plans. Work with communications staff to determine the optimal media for presenting stories on websites.  Work across the Communications Department and with Program Leaders to identify content opportunities and to coordinate execution, publishing and promotion across multiple media (text, video, photos and social) in a timely manner.

 

  • Edit textual content – spelling, grammar, and length of articles – and be accountable for content quality, message consistency and adherence to USGA Style Guidelines.  All duties should be carried out with an eye to accuracy, packaging of content, web appropriateness, and cross-promotion.

 

  • Leverage content management system, as well as train Communications Team on how to use CMS tools. Partner with Web Master to maintain CMS best practices.

 

  • Collaborate with Senior Writers/Content Managers to plan championship coverage, with a keen eye towards packaging content effectively to create compelling championship coverage and fan engagement.

 

  • Direct, manage and develop USGA Social Media Specialist to leverage the power of social media to effectively build the USGA brand and drive engagement with golf fans.  

 

  • Create original content for USGA websites, including interviewing, researching, and writing stories; editing and traveling for assignments.  Keep USGA websites current by keeping pace with current digital products and experiences, and working with Web Master, Digital and IT to create new content concepts and services and test new features, as needed.

 

  • Support Communications activities on-site at USGA championships, as requested.

 

 

Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities 

  • Proven editing, writing and photo editing experience
  • Five to seven years plus of web editing experience at a major site
  • A journalism/communications degree
  • A strong working knowledge of content management systems
  • Experience and proficiency in search engine optimization
  • Basic photo editing skills (using a program such as Photoshop)
  • Excellent communication and management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet ongoing deadlines
  • Knowledge of the game of golf, especially as it relates to USGA activities and mission 
  • Must be available to address website needs during evening and weekend hours
  • Must be willing to work extended hours during championship season, both on-site at championships and from home or office
