Position Summary: 

The Assistant Manager, U.S. Open Corporate Merchandising is responsible for the annual U.S. Open corporate merchandise program. This role is primarily focused on relationship building and order processing including sourcing collection of product, developing marketing materials, working directly with corporate clients and USGA corporate partners throughout the fulfillment process. This role is focused on driving and achieving the annual sales goal as well as all aspects of department strategic planning in support of the overall Association strategic plan. The Assistant Manager represents the USGA ensuring the highest level of professionalism in interactions with the best brands in the industry. Additional duties assigned as needed.

What You Can Expect 

  • Work directly with U.S. Open corporate hospitality clients and merchandise vendors to build strong mutually beneficial relationships with a focus on all aspects of order fulfillment; order processing; logo approval; compliance with USGA guidelines; product selection, sampling, sizing, logos, delivery; and order accuracy and on-time delivery.
  • During Championship, assist corporate clients with all merchandise needs, including last-minute orders, shopping, corporate charges, etc.
  • Develop pro-active merchandise sales program for corporate hospitality clients.
  • Produce corporate merchandise catalog and website in collaboration with graphic designer, photographer, website developer and stylist. This includes coordinating samples with vendors, determining pricing; writing copy, designing order forms, etc.
  • Develop and utilize unique sales ideas, i.e. special sample mailings, employee programs, pre-Championship outing programs, holiday gift programs, email campaigns, etc.
  • Set-up on-site corporate showroom including floor plan, fixtures, merchandise samples, props, meeting area, etc.
  • Participate in corporate update sessions including creating PowerPoint presentations and merchandise displays. 
  • Manage special merchandise programs for corporate partners.
  • During Championship, assist Partners with all merchandise needs, including last-minute orders, shopping, corporate charges, storage issues, etc.; manager customer service area; and assist with overall management of Merchandise Pavilion.
  • Develop budget, revenue projections, expenses, reporting, forecasts, quarterly updates, yearly sales analysis, historical sales data system, surveys, and recommendations for managing expenses creating a more efficient and fiscally responsible way to implement merchandise programs.
  • Maintain corporate merchandise database and website by working directly with external technical vendors.
  • Manage corporate client invoicing.
  • Collaborate with merchandise staff at product selection meetings and participate in new product development ideas.
  • Assist with supervising and providing leadership to one full-time staff member and approximately 20 merchandise interns.

What You Bring to the USGA 

  • 4 to 6 years of related work experience required.
  • Degree in Merchandising, Marketing, Business Administration or related field required.
  • Critical thinking and analysis, problem solving, and collaboration with all levels of association management; service oriented approach.
  • A team player who is able to collaborate as a member of a merchandising team and also work independently.
  • Demonstrated experience motivating, managing and mentoring college interns.
  • Strong Customer Service focus.
  • Ability to meet specific timelines and stay on a schedule throughout the year.
  • Willing to work long hours and some weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to travel as necessary including spending up to eight weeks on-site during May and June at U.S. Open site.
  • Ability to be involved with and manage heavy lifting of boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • Computer knowledge including strong understanding of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Databases and Websites.
  • Strong knowledge of golf industry vendors and product preferred.
