About the USGA: 

The USGA’s Public Services department comprises three areas of responsibility: charitable funding, special projects and inclusiveness. Through its charitable funding, the USGA partners with national organizations who work to make the experience of the game available to others, especially those who otherwise would not have the opportunity. The USGA frequently partners with allied organizations on special projects, and the Public Services department is responsible for the execution and management of these partnerships and the related activities. In addition, the Public Services department is charged with developing, implementing and maintaining programs that encourage a positive and proactive culture for inclusion in the game.

Position Summary: 

The Assistant Manager, Public Services supports the Director, Public Services in the execution and coordination of special projects and initiatives of the Association, in particular those developed in partnership with key allied associations. S/He coordinates various USGA areas of responsibility for junior golf initiatives including the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship and LPGA-USGA Girls Golf. Emphasis will also be placed on the coordination of special events. S/He will provide support for Public Services strategic initiatives. Where appropriate, s/he will assist USGA’s philanthropic activities and inclusiveness initiatives.

What You Can Expect 

  • Coordinate USGA areas of responsibility for the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship. Work with internal departments and external partners to develop and manage registration/entry system. Responsible for handling all inquiries from qualifying officials, participants and parents/guardians regarding entry/registration process, qualifying fields and other championship-related queries. Work with internal departments and external partners to develop content for championship website, including qualifying results.
  • Assist Public Services department in the development and execution of other projects with allied associations, including special events for various funded programs.
  • Assist efforts to develop programming for and promote events of LGPA-USGA Girls Golf. Develop opportunities for integration of USGA core functions for other funded programs.
  • Assist development and execution of Public Services’ inclusiveness strategy. Seek opportunities to engage with associations and programs that represent diverse audiences and maintain relationships with important regional and national associations and individuals that represent these constituents in the game.
  • Assist in the development and execution of special initiatives to promote USGA core functions.
  • Manage USGA’s special events with outside vendors, including scheduling, correspondence and budget. May include occasional on-site support.
  • Develop customer feedback mechanism for Public Services projects. Responsible for creating surveys, gathering results and interpreting outcomes.
  • Assist with communications efforts to promote special projects and philanthropic activities, including publications, web and social media content, press releases, internal communications, presentations for USGA and other golf community meetings.
  • Support major strategic initiatives of the USGA, to include projects such as Pace of Play and Tee It Forward. Provide research and communications support as needed to senior management and project teams.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.

Working Relationships 

  • All levels of USGA staff, with particular interaction with IT, Regional Affairs and Communications
  • Allied associations, including but not limited to the PGA of America, LPGA, Masters Tournament Foundation, The First Tee and AJGA
  • Representatives from USGA-supported programs, associations and organizations


What You Bring to the USGA 


  • Minimum 3-5+ years working in an office environment
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Strong experience creating written reports and presentations
  • Advanced proficiency with CMS, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – diplomatic, personable, cooperative
  • Reliable, conscientious and able to work independently
  • Extremely well organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information


  • Knowledge of golf and the golf community
  • Communications, public relations and media skills
  • Knowledge of sports business

Candidate must be willing to travel occasionally for various meetings and project-related trips.
