About the USGA: 

The USGA conducts the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international matches, attracting players and fans from more than 160 countries. Together with The R&A, the USGA governs the game worldwide, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, equipment standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings. The USGA is one of the world’s foremost authorities on research, development and support of sustainable golf course management practices. It serves as a primary steward for the game’s history and invests in the development of the game through the delivery of its services and its ongoing “For the Good of the Game” grants program. Additionally, the USGA’s Course Rating and Handicap systems are used on six continents in more than 50 countries.

Position Summary: 

The Assistant Director, Partnerships is responsible for the successful integration and ongoing service to the USGA’s top level corporate partnerships. This role is the primary day-to-day liaison between all of the USGA departments and functions and its top level corporate partners. The incumbent must identify opportunities for partners, establish appropriate financial considerations, understand and mitigate obstacles, communicate internally and externally and ensure (and report against) the USGA and its partners garner mutual value on an annual basis.


What You Can Expect 

Serve as the USGA’s primary day-to-day contact with existing top level corporate partners (specific partner assignments may vary) to:

  • Oversee and ensure contractual fulfillment of all elements within the contract (golf outings, hospitality, print, digital and broadcast media, etc)
  • Coordinate and manage implementation and integration of partners at USGA Championships including activation, credentials, special events, etc.
  • Serve as the point of contact to review and approve all proposed uses of USGA marks
  • Identify new activation opportunities for existing partners, particularly within their core area of focus
  • Coordinate and develop programs across USGA departments (e.g., digital media, membership).
  • Track and prepare ongoing communications for USGA staff and Executive Committee regarding programs, opportunities, challenges and successes for each partnership

 

Play an active role in evaluating the value of each partnership to the USGA and the partner itself. Work closely with partners and their respective agency teams to:

 

  • Define key success metrics for each year of the partnership (for the partner and the USGA)
  • Establish tracking methods to capture the relevant metrics and data needed to properly measure
  • Develop ongoing processes and/or meetings to discuss and identify wins and challenges
  • Prepare recommendations to improve and enhance existing programs

 

Supervise budgeting and financial invoices for the corporate partners program including department spending and partner billbacks. 

 

Identify and proactively seek opportunities to enhance the USGA’s mission and strategic direction through new corporate partnership categories. Understand the challenges faced by various departments and determine whether, and how, an external partner category might improve USGA efficiency and/or effectiveness.

 

Collaborate with the Partnerships department team to construct annual strategic operating plans, and the corresponding budgets, for the department and the partnership program overall.  Consider the USGA’s assets and determine how to best package those assets for partners, how to create and implement new partner benefits, and how to best integrate and collaborate with the USGA’s hospitality sales team in marketing to corporations.

 

What You Bring to the USGA 

  • College degree preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in sports sponsorship marketing
  • Experience creating, managing, and measuring multi-platform digital and experiential activation programs
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Client service and account management experience
  • Proven ability to partner, communicate and collaborate across multiple disciplines and organizational groups
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong measurement and analytics skills
  • Core understanding of the USGA and its Championships
  • Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word required

 


Additional Comments: 

Position will require approximately 25-35 days of travel per year.

These lessons teach the science behind the USGA’s equipment testing, handicapping, and agronomy efforts.
