Position Summary: 

To develop and disseminate agronomic, environmental, and economically sustainable management practices, based on science and practical solutions, to help golf facilities maintain better playing conditions through the USGA Turf Advisory Service (on-site visits, education outreach, research, support of USGA championships).   Varying degrees of travel are required for this position. 

 


Duties 

 

  • On-site Visits:
    • Conduct on-site Turf Advisory Service visits for the assigned region.
    • Handle all on-site visits and subsequent reports in a professional and timely manner meeting all of the departmental deadlines.
    • Return all on-site visit reports within 14 days of the actual visit.
    • Maintain a basic knowledge of state and federal EPA requirements and regulations.
      
  • Education Outreach:
    • Develop timely, well-written, and thorough articles and education products on agronomic and sustainability issues to promote the Green Section strategic priorities to a broad audience (e.g. course officials, superintendents, regulatory officials, golfers).
    • Develop the content and make presentations on agronomic and sustainability topics while advancing the Green Section expertise, outreach materials, and programs available from the USGA.
    • Provide input in the development of Green Section multi-media education products.
    • Review staff materials for editing and proofing before submitting for publication, as requested.
      
  • Research:
    • Remain current on the USGA Turfgrass and Environmental Research Program and other research being conducted by regional universities. 
    • Share pertinent research topics through Green Section education outreach efforts.
    • Keep the director of the USGA research program abreast of needed research and other research activities in assigned region.

     

  •  General Duties:
    • Maintain a fundamental understanding of the USGA strategic plan and goals for a culture of excellence.   
    • Maintain relationships with regional allied associations on agronomic-related issues and topics. 
    • Keep the Green Section managing director apprised of regional activities.
    • Assist with other departmental activities and projects, as assigned.

 

 

Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities 

 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and desire to provide high-quality progressive products and services for the organization.
  • Courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred.
  • Golf course work experience desirable.
