The USGA conducts the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international matches. Together with The R&A, the USGA governs the game worldwide, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, Equipment Standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings. The USGA’s working jurisdiction comprises the United States, its territories and Mexico.

Operations Coordinator, 2013 U.S. Open/Operations Liaison, 2013 U.S. Open
 

Duration of Internship: 

April 2013/May 2013 - July 2013

Position Summary: 

 

Assist the United States Golf Association (USGA) with the operations of the 2013 U.S. Open Championship, including advance preparation, Championship week responsibilities, and post-Championship breakdown.  The operations office is a fast paced office dealing with a wide variety of duties.  Intern will find themselves working in a significant labor intensive outdoor environ.  Interns must have ability to work under pressure and handle many tasks at one time.

 


Duties 

  • Assist the USGA operations staff with the preparation and set-up of on-site facilities (corporate hospitality, media center, vendor compounds, volunteer village, etc.)
  • Work with the USGA staff on the distribution of operational equipment (chairs, drink stands, furniture, office equipment, tables, water coolers, etc.)
  • Work with USGA staff on providing assistance to vendors (construction, fencing, telephone installation, etc.
  • Work with USGA staff on installation and removal of all Championship signage
  • Assist USGA staff with the advanced preparation of Championship facilities including construction and painting

  • Ability to work long and strenuous hours
  • Prior experience in golf tournament operations is a plus
