The USGA conducts the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international matches. Together with The R&A, the USGA governs the game worldwide, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, Equipment Standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings. Duration of Internship: 

February 2013 - August 2013

Position Summary: 

 

Assist the United States Golf Association (USGA) with the operations of the 2013 U.S. Open Championship, including advance preparation/set-up, Championship week responsibilities and post-Championship breakdown.  The operations office is a fast paced office dealing with a wide variety of duties.  Intern will find themselves working in an office environment as well as significant work done in exterior environs.  Interns must have the ability to work under pressure and handle many tasks at one time. 

 


Duties 

  • Coordinate with USGA staff on the preparation and set-up of on-site facilities (i.e., corporate hospitality, media center, vendor compounds, volunteer village, office trailers, etc.)
  • Work with USGA staff on providing assistance to vendors (construction, deliveries, fencing, etc.)
  • Assist USGA staff on the distribution of operational equipment (chairs, furniture, office equipment, tables, water coolers, etc.
  • Work with USGA staff on installation and removal of all Championship signage
  • Assist USGA staff with the advanced preparations of Championship facilities including construction and painting
  • Provide USGA staff with administrative office support
  • Assist other U.S. Open departments with support, as necessary

  • Able to assume full responsibility for projects
  • General computer literacy (Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
  • Able to accomplish tasks quickly and thoroughly
  • Ability to work with various tools and equipment
  • Ability to work long and strenuous hours (40 – 100+ hour work weeks)
  • Prior experience in golf tournament operations is a plus.
