Position Summary: 

 

Assist the United States Golf Association (USGA) Field Operation’s office with the day-to-day operations of the 2013 U.S. Open Championship. This position will work hand-in-hand with the Operations Liaison and primarily focus on communicating Championship related information to the USGA, Vendors, and Host Club as well as maintaining and distributing accurate equipment and operational lists.  The operations office is a fast paced office dealing with a wide variety of duties.  Intern will find themselves working in an office environment.  Intern must have the ability to work under pressure and handle many tasks at one time. 

 


Duties 

 

  • Assist the USGA Operations staff with the preparation and set-up of on-site facilities (corporate hospitality, media center, vendor compounds, volunteer village, etc.) including maps and operational layouts.
  • Acquire knowledge of all general aspects of the U.S. Open operations plan in order to assist in the answering of general questions.
  • File all operational paper work, handle all incoming calls and incoming/outgoing mail, and assist with the distribution of date sensitive operations information.
  • Take and distribute accurate notes for all operations vendor meetings and assist with the coordination of vendor accommodations and their on-site arrivals.
  • Help to maintain accurate and up-to-date Championship equipment lists.
  • Work with USGA staff on the distribution of operational equipment (carts, radios, phones, etc.).
  • Work with USGA staff on providing assistance to vendors.
  • Maintain office supplies and equipment and replenish as necessary.
  • Assist Championship Office, as needed, on projects and administrative tasks.

All U.S. Open staff mebmers, any USGA staff members involved in the U.S. Open, vendors, and Merion Golf Club personnel.


Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities 

  • Diplomatic, even tempered personality – able to communicate and work well with a wide variety of people involved in the Championship.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow and execute detailed plans – able to anticipate and analyze problems and provide logical solutions.
  • Ability to communicate and delegate tasks.
  • Above average knowledge of Excel, Word, Publisher, Outlook, & PowerPoint.
  • In-depth knowledge of services required for operation of a “major” professional golf Championship a plus.
