Non-conforming Driver List

The United States Golf Association has compiled a list of driving clubs that do not conform with its test adopted in October of 1998 and modified in January of 2004 measuring spring-like effect. These clubs are prohibited from use in any round of golf in the United States and Mexico conducted under USGA Rules, including those rounds played for posting handicaps.

Non-Conforming Driver List

The Non-Conforming Driver List is maintained and updated each Monday on the USGA web site. The List is primarily published for use by golfers and rules officials to help ensure compliance with the Rules of Golf.

The clubs are listed in alphabetical order by manufacturer. In using this list, please pay close attention to the "Identification Markings" column. This column details the exact markings on the sole, toe, and/or heel (if any) of each club listed. You can view an image of the club's sole markings by clicking on the "View Photo" link in the table. When multiple lofts are listed for a product name, only one loft will be shown in the image. If the markings do not match exactly, a club should not be deemed non-conforming solely on the basis of this list.

Please note that several driving club models appearing on the non-conforming list are also made in a USGA conforming version. Those versions that are non-conforming to USGA Rules are typically distributed and sold in locations outside of USGA jurisdiction. To help identify those models with conforming and non-conforming versions, there is a notation under the "Lofts" column indicating if there is a conforming version available. Additionally, the image will display both the conforming and non-conforming versions and indicate their differences.

Since inception of the spring-like effect standard, the USGA has examined thousands of golf clubs to determine compliance with its spring-like effect standard. Please note that spring-like effect is one of several criteria considered in determining whether or not a driver conforms to the Rules.
